Your Most Asked...Answered!
When it comes to shopping for bedding, we know it can get complicated. How do you know what to pick? And once you have your bedding, what do you do with it? We’ve compiled and answered some of the most popular questions about bedding the internet has to offer.
How often should I change my sheets?
No matter how clean you think you are, you’re probably laying in some dirty sheets. As you sleep, oil, dead skin, hair, and bacteria is transferred from your body to your sheets and back again. Leaving your sheets unwashed means more chance for bacteria, oil, and other nasty stuff to irritate your skin and aggravate your allergies. Get into the habit of washing your sheets once a week. To stop the problem at the source, consider investing in bamboo sheets. Their natural anti-bacterial and hypoallergenic properties prevent dead skin, bacteria, and dust mites from nesting in your sheets and causing you problems. This means less washing and more sleeping!
How many pillows do I need?
The number of pillows you need is really dependant on your sleeping style. You need one main pillow for your head. We highly recommend an adjustable memory foam pillow. This will save you having to buy several different pillows based on your needs. Just open the pillow and remove the foam to adjust to your comfort level.
In addition to your main pillow, you may want another pillow to place under your legs or back if you’re having discomfort or pain. A few decorative pillows go a long way, but be careful not to overwhelm your bed. We recommend two pillows per sleeper and three decorative pillows max.
What is the best thread count for sheets?
We often get asked what thread count our 1500 and Luxury Bamboo bed sheets are. Here’s the thing...we don’t use thread count! Thread count refers to the number of threads in one square inch of fabric and is an outdated and very deceptive way to measure what counts as a “quality” sheet. Manufacturers have figured out how to charge a pretty penny for high thread count sheets that aren't as good as you think they are. They do this by binding two or four threads together in one strand. Technically, this gives them the power to claim their sheets as being two or four times the thread count than they really are. In fact, this binding doesn’t make the sheets and softer or stronger than if they had used a single thread. Be wary of “high thread count”!
How do I wash my Cosy pillows?
Cosy House Luxury Bamboo pillows are designed to be ridiculously easy to clean. The outer bamboo casing not only prevents bacteria and dust mites from settling (less washing, remember?), but it is removable from the pillow itself. To wash, simply unzip and remove the casing. Toss in the washing machine with our Cosy Laundry Detergent and wash on cold. Remove and dry on low heat. Then place it back on your pillow and enjoy!
How do I prevent my sheets from bobbling?
Bobbling is one of the most common bedding mishaps. Bobbling is when small balls of fabric develop on the top of your sheets, which can make the texture rough and uncomfortable. While wear and tear on your sheets can occur with age and frequent use, bobbles can come out of nowhere, even on brand new sheets. That being said, there are steps you can take to stop bobbling.
First, avoid washing and drying your sheets in hot water. Not only will you save more energy when doing laundry, but you will prevent needless damage to your bedding. Skip the bleaching and opt for a natural detergent, as heavy chemicals can weaken to fibers and make pilling more likely. Last, keep several sets of sheets on hand and switch them out frequently. This will ensure that your sheets don’t get worn too quickly.
How do I style my bed?
There’s no definitive way to style your bed. There are however a few guidelines that you can follow to help you decide how to style it. First, decide what vibe you want your room to have. Do you want something lively and playful, or peaceful and tranquil? Once you have your vibe, pick colors that compliment that vibe. For instance, blue denotes calm and peace and yellow is full of energy. You can see more colors here! Whatever color you choose, you want to complement it with your decor. This includes your bedding. Research complementary colors and stick to those for an easy, yet chic look!
Should I have different bedding for summer and winter?
In most cases, this would be a definite yes. Summer and winter, depending on what region you live in, can go from burning hot to drastically cold. That being said, we highly recommend investing in bedding that can transition between seasons. Choose sheets that wick away moisture to keep you cool, but are still thick enough to bundle around you. Bamboo is great for this! A down-alternative duvet is an essential part of a transitional bedding set. Cool and breezy, this piece will be comfortable no matter the weather. If you invest in the best, you can spend less.
